We are seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to lead our company-wide safety and environmental efforts. This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and continuously improving safety programs that protect our employees, customers, and worksites while supporting compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on safety leader who is comfortable working in both shop and field environments, communicating with employees at all levels, and building a proactive safety culture across the organization.

Position Summary:

The HSE Manager will oversee health, safety, and environmental programs for R&S Maintenance, including policy development, employee training, inspections, audits, incident investigations, regulatory compliance, environmental practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This position requires strong leadership, practical problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work closely with management, supervisors, shop employees, field crews, and customers to ensure safe and compliant operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company HSE policies, procedures, programs, and documentation.
  • Promote a strong safety culture built on accountability, communication, prevention, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, state, local, customer, and industry safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections, audits, and jobsite observations for shop, field, equipment, vehicle, and customer-site operations.
  • Identify workplace hazards and partner with supervisors and employees to develop practical corrective actions.
  • Lead incident, accident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
  • Notify senior management of significant incidents, hazards, trends, or compliance concerns.
  • Develop and deliver safety training, toolbox talks, orientation materials, refresher training, and job-specific safety instruction.
  • Maintain safety records, training records, inspection logs, incident reports, SDS records, and other required documentation.
  • Manage environmental compliance activities, including waste management, spill prevention, pollution prevention, and sustainability-related initiatives where applicable.
  • Evaluate and recommend safety equipment, PPE, machine guarding, point-of-operation protection, signage, and other hazard-control measures.
  • Review new safety regulations, customer requirements, and industry best practices to determine their impact on company operations.
  • Partner with operations leadership to support safe execution of industrial maintenance, millwright, fabrication, machine shop, trucking, and field-service work.
  • Assist with customer safety prequalification requirements, audits, documentation requests, and site-specific safety expectations.
  • Track safety performance metrics and recommend improvements based on trends, leading indicators, and company needs.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Proven experience in health, safety, and environmental management or a closely related safety leadership role.
  • Experience working in an industrial, construction, manufacturing, maintenance, machine shop, millwright, fabrication, or field-service environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and general workplace safety standards.
  • Ability to conduct safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, management, customers, and regulatory representatives.
  • Ability to develop and deliver safety training.
  • Strong written communication skills, including report writing, documentation, and policy development.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Safety certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, CIH, CHMM, or other relevant credentials.
  • First Aid and CPR Training certification.
  • Experience with customer safety compliance systems, contractor prequalification platforms, or industrial safety documentation.
  • Experience developing safety programs for both shop-based and field-based teams.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance, waste management, spill prevention, and pollution-prevention practices.
